All Kids, All Schools, Our Decisions Coalition Moves Campaign to Win Policy that Insures Conditions Necessary for All Kids to Succeed
OCO and Coalition Partners kicked of our All Kids, All Schools, Our Decisions Campaign with a press conference to urge the Oakland Unified School Board to adopt policies that establish school site decision-making in the following areas:
· Educational Programs: Local decision-making authority to develop and implement curriculum and instruction tailored to student needs.
· School Site Budgets: Local decision-making authority to allocate site resources to best meet student needs.
· Staffing: Local decision-making authority around hiring, support and retention of staff based on student needs.
· School Schedules: Local decision-making authority to create school schedules - which could include additional time in the day and/or school year –to best respond to student needs.
This press event was followed by research actions (60 leaders) with Superintendant Tony Smith and Oakland Education Association (teachers union), and testimony before the OUSD Special Committee of the Board to present a policy frame work and develop implementation strategies. We anticipate a vote by the OUSD Board on April 25th and a plan for implementation by the Superintendant to follow shortly
