Immigration and Citizenship Workshops
OCO held two immigrant Rights Workshops at two local congregations. Over 160 community members attended workshops at St. Anthony Church (2/17/08) and St. Elizabeth Church (3/2/08) at events co-sponsored by OCO, Interfaith Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Immigrant Legal Resource Center. Attendees had the opportunity to have free private consultations with lawyers. Over 70 people took advantage of this opportunity.
On March 9 th and 29 th , OCO is hosting citizenship drives at St. Bernard and San Luis Beltran, respectively. Here, legal permanent residents who qualify can fill out their applications to become U.S. Citizens. Other workshops are being planned for later dates across the city. This campaign is part of a larger coalition with 6 other PICO affiliates across the Bay Area to increase the number of U.S. voting citizens who will learn about active citizenship and participation in classes being offered at local congregations.
