The E. 14th Street Congress of Neighborhoods is a network of community-led organizations who believe that East Oakland’s working-class Black, Brown and Asian residents themselves should have the most voice in deciding what happens in East Oakland.
East Oakland is dealing with a lot of issues—housing and homelessness, fears about immigration raids, illegal dumping, industrial pollution, school quality and safety, and many more. But we recognize that the real problem isn’t all the issues. It is that the people of East Oakland don’t have the respect of the people in power, whose decisions create these issues. Our biggest issue is a lack of power. By coming together around common concerns, we think we can create more power in East Oakland.
The Congress: Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE), Causa Justa Just Cause (CJJC), Communities for a Better Environment (CBE), East Bay Asian Youth Center (EBAYC), and Oakland Community Organizations (OCO).
