Oakland Community Organizations (OCO)
 is seeking a full time Chief Operating Officer. The COO will manage the fund development, finance, data, information, and administrative operations of the organization and will work closely with the Executive Director as part of the Management Team. OCO is a grassroots, inter-faith organization representing more than 40,000 people through 350 volunteer community leaders from approximately 60 participating congregations, schools and other organizations in Oakland. At the core of our mission is the transformation of people, communities and institutions through leadership development and participatory democracy. OCO leaders are people of faith who strive to improve their communities by getting involved in our shared civic life. For 35 years, OCO has affected significant change at the local, state-wide and national level in the areas of housing, education, health, immigration and public safety. Currently operating with an annual budget of about $1,000,000 and a paid staff of seven, OCO works primarily with low and middle-income communities to help them identify and resolve community problems. OCO is part of the PICO network, working together with like-minded groups across the country.

Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Coordinate preparation and successful implementation of annual fund development plan.

  2. Manage the grants process, including: research, identification, and solicitation of foundation and corporate funders, writing grant proposals and fulfilling reporting requirements.

  3. Provide staff support to the OCO Fundraising Committee and other groups to expand OCO funding base.

  4. Support ED, Finance and Audit Committee, and the Board in the practice of sound financial management principles, policies and procedures needed to exercise fiduciary responsibilities.

  5. Develop and implement an integrated system for data and information necessary for sustained communications and to support, analyze and report organizational and issue development and outcomes.

  6. Insure all required Human Relations and other non profit management policies and best practices are current and implemented.

  7. Attend organizing meetings, as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director, including PICO training and the annual Applegate week, and participate in PICO's Congregation Community Model of Organizing.

Qualifications include the following:

  1. At least three years experience with competence in financial management, fundraising, data management and basic IT.

  2. Strong organizational, writing, and public speaking skills.

  3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  4. Experience with database management and data entry (Preferably with Salesforce, VAN and Salsa)

  5. Knowledge of administrative online applications, such as GoToMeeting, Skype, GroupMe, SurveyMonkey, etc.

  6. Belief in the mission of OCO, and ability to articulate this mission to others.

  7. Ability to work effectively as part of a staff team.

  8. Experience with and sensitivity to multi cultural work environments.

  9. Willingness to take initiative; excellent time management skills; detail-oriented and conscientious about work quality; professionalism and confidentiality

  10. Bachelor degree or equivalent experience

  11. Spanish Language proficiency preferred, not required
