On June 14, the state Legislature agreed to pass a budget that includes an equitable funding formula for our kids. That means more than $10 billion over eight years in new funding that will go toward students with the greatest need—a direct connection to our Proposition 30 work. This victory was won because OCO leaders and staff worked tirelessly to rally support behind the Local Control Funding Formula, Governor Jerry Brown’s new education initiative that focused on bringing more money to schools in Oakland and other urban cities across the state that have large numbers of low-income students of color.

Together, we took advantage of a historic opportunity to change the way schools are funded in California to provide more resources to low-income students of color, foster youth an English language learners.
