Fifty West Oakland parents, community members and service providers attended OCO’s first West Oakland education action at St. Mary’s Center on May 10th, 2011. OCO leaders from Hoover Elementary detailed their experience as parents and the importance of teachers and classified staff in their school. They also asked that District 3 OUSD Board Member Jumoke Hinton-Hodge and OUSD Spokesperson Troy Flint

  1. pledge to support the decreased layoffs confirmed by OUSD and opportunities for keeping more teachers and
  2. pledge support for opportunities to increase resources for OUSD and keep classified staff.

Both Board Member Hinton-Hodge and OUSD Spokesperson Flint agreed to help create a long range strategic plan for West Oakland and to work with the community to keep teachers and classified staff in schools.
